Courses, classes, attendance and assessment

A teacher is preparing a science unit for a class. Academic administration establishes the year, class and timetable; the teacher then builds the course and its lessons. Online course progress and the official gradebook answer different questions, so the teacher checks both before reporting an outcome.

Before you begin

  • Confirm the academic calendar, learners and class placement with the office.
  • Prepare the intended course material and assessment criteria.
  • Confirm your role allows content editing, learner access or official grade entry as required.

Set up the academic calendar and classes

Open Learning → Academic calendar to review academic years and terms. Use dates approved by the school and avoid confusing an academic year with an accounting fiscal year.

Open Classes to review class placement, then Timetable to check when teaching is scheduled. A learner profile alone does not prove the learner is enrolled in the correct class or course.

Create and save a course draft

  1. Open Learning → Courses & lessons and choose Create course.
  2. Enter Title, such as Grade 1 · Reading together. Add a Short introduction explaining the goal and a Description when needed.
  3. Choose Create course. The saved workspace shows Draft and Version 1; it has not yet been published to learners.

Build the curriculum before publishing

  1. Use Assign instructor to select an active instructor.
  2. Choose Add chapter and enter a title such as Stories around us. Save the chapter before adding its lesson.
  3. Each step saves independently. Reopening the course restores saved work. The readiness message identifies missing requirements; do not treat a saved draft as a published course.

Add a lesson and review preview access

  1. Choose Add lesson in the intended chapter. Enter The school garden as Title for this example.
  2. Write the Lesson text / transcript and choose the appropriate Resource type. The demonstration uses Text with a short reading and vocabulary activity.
  3. Select Include in course preview only when the lesson should be available in that preview. Choose Add lesson to save.
  4. Review the saved curriculum, instructor and learner preview. Publish only when the course is ready and the publication checks pass.

Prepare assignments and quizzes

Open Assignments & quizzes and choose the appropriate creation control. Link the work to the intended course or lesson, add the required instructions and review timing and grading fields before publishing.

Review submissions through the available submission and grading controls. Use the recorded submission as evidence; completing a lesson is not proof that an assignment was submitted or passed.

Record attendance

  1. Open Learning → Attendance and select the intended class and date.
  2. Review the learner roster before marking attendance.
  3. Record actual attendance using the available statuses and save.
  4. Reopen the date to confirm the result and use the permitted correction workflow for mistakes.

Review official assessments and the gradebook

Open Official assessments for the school’s formal assessment records and Gradebook for the related result entry or review. Check learner, class, subject or assessment context before saving marks.

Review any available draft, submission and finalization controls explicitly. A quiz result in the learning course is not automatically the school’s approved official result.

Check progress and resolve missing access

  • Use Enrolments & progress to confirm course enrolment and learning progress.
  • If content is missing, check publication state, enrolment, workspace and role.
  • If an official result is missing, check the assessment and gradebook context rather than recreating the learner.
  • Keep learner submissions and results within authorized school access.
