Sales returns and linked credits

Two of the delivered books are damaged and the customer returns them. The storekeeper records the physical return against the original delivery. Finance then reviews the linked credit, rather than editing the original invoice or treating the return as a cash refund.

Create the return

  1. Open the eligible submitted delivery and choose Create return.
  2. Review the original delivery reference, returned lines and quantities. Stay within the quantity eligible to return.
  3. Confirm the warehouse, tracking details and posting date. Save a draft or submit after checking the goods actually returned.
  4. Open Selling > Returns to review the resulting return record.

Create the linked credit note

  1. Open the completed return and use Create credit where it is available.
  2. Review the credit date and linked invoice evidence before confirming.
  3. Inspect the customer’s credit note and balance in Invoicing. If money is to be returned, use the separate customer-credit refund workflow.

Check both records

The submitted return provides the inventory reversal evidence. The linked credit note provides the Receivables correction. Neither record should erase the original delivery or invoice.

If the credit action is unavailable, check the return status, source billing and whether a credit was already created. Repeated clicks must not become duplicate returns or credits.
