Cookie Policy
Last Updated: October 26, 2025

1) Overview

This Cookie Policy explains how Schoolbooks Accounting (“Schoolbooks,” “we,” “us”) uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and cloud services (“Services”). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy. We comply with the Data Protection Act, 2019 (Kenya) and the Data Protection (General) Regulations, 2021.

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Some cookies are essential to run the Services; others help us improve performance, remember preferences, and measure usage. We do not use student data for advertising or profiling unrelated to education.

2) Types of cookies we use

  • Essential: Required to operate the Services (auth, load balancing, security, CSRF). These cannot be switched off.
  • Security: Detect and prevent fraud/abuse, protect sessions and forms.
  • Performance: Improve speed and reliability (e.g., CDN, caching).
  • Functional: Remember settings and preferences (e.g., language, UI state).
  • Analytics: Usage measurement to enhance features and fix issues (e.g., Google Analytics or privacy-preserving alternatives).
  • Advertising (limited): If used, only on our marketing site and never for student data; off by default unless you opt in.

Where required, non-essential cookies are used only with your consent. You can change your preferences at any time.

3) Your choices & consent

On first visit, you may see a cookie banner to accept, reject, or customise non-essential cookies. You can also manage cookies via your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect functionality.

  • Browser controls: block or delete cookies (see your browser’s help pages).
  • In-product controls: use our cookie banner or settings to update preferences.
  • Analytics opt-out: for example, Google Analytics offers a browser add-on.

4) Schools & student data

Schools are typically the data controllers. Schoolbooks acts as a data processor on their instructions. We do not use student data for advertising. Any analytics relating to student activity is limited to service delivery, security, and product improvement, and is handled with appropriate safeguards.
